03 If I Could Only Dance With You

Jim Glaser

In the late 70s and 80s country music hits by Crystal Gale, Anne Murray and others began to have a decided “pop” flavor which greatly increased country’s audience size. During that time period, Jim Glaser came along with this lovely song. I can still remember when I first heard, If I Could Only Dance With You, as I walked into a restaurant. I fell in love with the song before he was through the first chorus. I knew very little about Jim Glaser back then, but for these liner notes let me touch on a few highlights of a stellar career that is still alive and well, as he continues to entertain audiences across the country.

At age nineteen, Jim left the proverbial Nebraska farm (where he grew up), to travel the world with Marty Robbins. In fact, it’s Jim’s tenor voice you hear on Marty’s most famous recording, El Paso. Jim, as part of the Glaser Brothers, was with Patsy Cline for her debut at Las Vegas’ Mint Casino just weeks before her death. And did you know that Jim was voted Top New Male Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music? Further, as a writer, he scored many hits including the unforgettable, Woman, Woman for Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.

So when I contacted Jim about this project, it was with great satisfaction he turned out to be so cordial and at my request wrote a short piece about his song. Thanks Jim.
