I’ll sing whatever you want; it’s ya’ll’s record.
Alan Jackson
The following year he tied the record held by Johnny Cash and Vince Gill with ten Country Music Award nominations, winning five including Entertainer Of The Year.
From Jeannie Kendall:
“Alan Jackson chose this song for him and me to sing as a duet. It’s one of the most positive, uplifting songs I’ve ever heard. It so much reminds me of my mom and dad and the ‘forever kind of love’ they shared. My mom was always so supportive of all my dad’s musical dreams, while also enjoying the little things they had together. My dad loved to sing and play and she knew that from the start, because the first time they met, he was picking and singing. My dad knew at first sight he’d found his true love, and so did my mom. She was a beautician and loved her work and even though music was dad’s first choice in his career goals, he also became a talented barber. As they shared that 4 profession together, he still held onto his dreams in music. They were wed, both with plans for a family and so, ‘Along came me’ and soon I had those same musical dreams and aspirations. As I entered my teens, daddy and I became The Kendalls."
“In just a few years, as I grew up and we had great success in the music business (of which I am forever thankful) people would ask me, ‘When you find someone you love and get married, will that break up The Kendalls?’ I would reply, ‘No, I am going to marry a guitar player, so he can play for daddy and me.’ So it wasn’t a surprise to me when I first saw my true love, Mack Watkins. He was playing lead guitar for Grand Ole Opry star Del Reeves. Daddy and I were not yet carrying a band of our own and when we would appear on the same concert shows as Del, his band would play for The Kendalls. So, I had that part of my dream taken care of, now I just had to work on the marrying part. I took care of that too and all of our dreams came true together. “I am not saying that life is always such a fairytale and always so easy, but it all comes down to trying to make each other’s day the best it can be and believing in both of your dreams and endeavors, while never forgetting how much you are in love and all the ways you can successfully show that love to each other. “Then your love is on the way to being a complete, real ‘Timeless And True Love.’”
“P.S. I must tell you how much I appreciated Alan Jackson helping me with the recording project my dad and I had started before he passed away. Alan chose the song for him and I to sing, as I said previously; he sang it so beautifully, with such ease and perfection, but with feeling, and was so much of a gracious man, especially when I was the one that needed to be gracious to him which I certainly was. So, thanks, Alan, for all your talent and assistance. Thanks too, to Joe Galante, Alan’s record label president, for giving the ‘OK’ for the appearance of Alan on my project and thanks to Nancy Russell for coordination from beginning to end.”
