Will Oprah Guest Forgive Again? Japanese Company Threatens Her Earnings.
Jackie Millar’s story of near death and forgiveness was so unbelievable that it caught the attention of the Oprah show producers. Oprah was doing a segment on forgiveness and Jackie Millar’s story fit the segment to a tee.
Jackie’s story had made headlines when she came upon two teenage boys who were attempting to steal her car. Instead of running away, the two choose to shoot Jackie in the head execution style, leaving her for dead and hijacking her car. When Oprah’s staff realized that Jackie had not only forgiven the then teens, but also, now uses her disabilities to speak out to teens as a living documentary of what repercussions violence causes for the victim, the producers welcomed Jackie to tell her story on the Oprah show.
It would seem impossible for an individual to endure life threatening encroachments multiple times during her life; but in the case of Jackie Millar, it’s happened to her again. Only this time, the situation involves her financial life instead of her physical being. With co-writer Judith Adrian, Jackie recently finished her autobiography, BECAUSE I AM JACKIE MILLAR. The book was several years in the making, and incurred four thousand dollars in printing costs; only to discover the ISBN number she paid $350 for had been …bookjacked.
Instead of purchasing an ISBN number (International Standard Book Number) which is a unique commercial book identifier barcode and is used to track the sales of a book, the Asahi Shiko Co., Ltd., a Japanese publishing firm, did the unthinkable; they simply made up their own number for their book on Origami, thus saving the $350 fee. This number was inadvertently sold and assigned to Jackie by ISBN to identify her book, and during the book’s printing was incorporated in several places in-side her book. But when consumers try to buy Jackie’s life story using the ISBN number, the Origami book makes that impossible. Jackie can’t even list the book for sale at Amazon.com or any other book store in the world, physical or online using her assigned number. Asahi Shiko Company has in effect bookjacked Jackie’s book, (to coin a phrase). So if you tried to buy Jackie’s book by simply using the unique ISBN number, you’ll be buying the Origami book instead, the purchased credited to the Asahi Shiko Company, instead of showing a sale for Jackie Millar’s book.
Jackie now it seems has one more opportunity to forgive. However, the US Attorney’s office may not be so generous. Jackie will have to print her book again, costing $4,000 using a new ISBN number.
